Supporting Autistic Young People with Strong Feelings
In this webinar, which draws on both clinical and lived experience, as well as conversations with spectrum gaming members Hanna talks about the role of emotions and emotional regulation. There is discussion about why this might be harder for autistic young people particularly focusing on the challenges of living in systems which are not designed with autistic people in mind. Hanna covers the role of interoception in understanding and managing strong feelings. The second part of the webinar covers what parents and professionals can do to support and includes strategies for building interoceptive awareness, supporting young people to communicate emotions, regulatory strategies and more!
This webinar is delivered by Dr Hanna Venton-Platz, Spectrum Gaming's Clinical Psychologist. Hanna has been working with autistic young people and adults since 2008, initially as a support worker, and since 2017 as a Psychologist. You can find out a bit more about Hanna in her 'Meet the Team' video.
